Christ be with me, Christ within me,

Christ behind me, Christ before me,

Christ beside me, Christ to win me,

Christ to comfort and restore me,

Christ beneath me, Christ above me,

Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,

Christ in hearts of all that love me,

Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.

White Smoke...We Have a Pope

The Conclave began yesterday and people from all over the world awaited for white smoke to rise from the Sistine Chapel.  Today, it happened and we now have a new Pope.

HABEMUS PAPAM!

Pope Francis
Pope Francis' first speech as the Holy Father:
"Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Good evening.
As you know, the duty of the conclave was to appoint a bishop of Rome, and it seems to me that my brother cardinals have chosen who is from far away. Here I am.
I would like to thank you for your embrace, also to the Roman Catholic Church and the bishops, thank you very much. And first and foremost, I would like to pray for our bishop emeritus, Benedict XVI
Let us pray together for him so that he is blessed by the Lord...
Let us begin this journey together... this journey for the Roman Catholic Church. It is a journey of friendship, of love, of trust, and faith. Let us pray always for one another. Let us pray for the whole world. Let us have a big brotherhood.
I wish that this journey for the Church, which we will start today... will bear fruits for the evangelizing of this beautiful city.
I would like to offer you my blessing. But I would like to ask a favor first. I would like to pray to the Lord so that the prayer of the people blesses also the new pontiff. Let us pray in silence your prayer for me."

Ash Wednesday

"Ash Wednesday begins Lent, a time when we stop and assess how we’re doing in our walk with God. Lent helps us identify spiritual areas in which we can grow and sinful areas that we need to avoid. To repent, put simply, means to turn away from sin and turn toward God. We use ashes as an outward expression of our need to begin again." - Mark Hart

Sacred Sunday

This coming Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lenten Season of 2013.  Lent is a 40 day period before Easter.  It is a time of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.  During the lenten season, we prepare our hearts and minds for the death of Jesus Christ on Good Friday and the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday.

The 40 days of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving help us to love Jesus better and to become more in communion with Him.  In order to determine how to prepare during the lenten season, it is great to break it up into categories of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.

{Prayer}
What can I do to increase my prayer life?

  • spending 10 minutes of silence in prayer
  • turn off the radio in the car when traveling & use that time for prayer and silence
  • read 30 minutes of scripture (open up that bible!)

{Fasting}
What can I give up that is taking time away from growing deeper in my relationship with God?
  • limit time spent on the internet & be specific
    • I will spend only 20 mins on Facebook, Pinterest, & Blogspot
  • give up one of your favorite foods or drinks
    • I will give up coffee
    • I will give up sweets

{Almsgiving}
How can I help my brothers and sisters in Christ?
  • give your friends words of encouragement
    • write letters of gratitude and thanks to those who have challenge you to be the person you are today
  • go to a nursing home and visit the elderly

What will you do for the Lenten season to grow closer to Jesus Christ?

God Bless,

Happy Saturday!

:] Hello Bloggers!

I hope you are having a wonderful Saturday.
This lovely weekend I am having a sleepover with
my sweet teammate, Dene'.  Last night we watched
Letters to Juliet, a sweet romantic film and this morning
we had a few students over for scones and tea.

I made my first scone last night, a banana scone!   They turned out
great.   While having tea and scones, we talked about St. Gianna
and her great example of womanhood.  She was a mother of four children,
a wife to Pietro, a doctor, and loved fashion.  St. Gianna is well known
for saving her fourth child's life by refusing to have an abortion
and hysterectomy during pregnancy.  She is a great inspiration and
woman that lead a very virtuous life.  May we look to St. Gianna
for guidance to true womanhood.

“The doctor should not meddle. The right of the child is equal to the right
of the mother’s life. The doctor can’t decide; it is a sin to kill in the womb.”
“If you must choose between me and the baby, no hesitation;
I choose – and I demand it – the baby. Save her!”

- St. Gianna Beretta Molla

Music Monday

Hello Bloggers, I hope you are all doing well.

Below is a song by Lily & Madeleine Jurkiewicz two sisters from Indianapolis.
I love great acoustic songs and this is definitely a great one.
Check it out:

Here are their lyrics:

The river is white
It's tangled and dry
But I still remember you here
Swimming in the middle
A red bird sings
From the sycamore tree
Some kind of eloquent echo
I live in the middle
The shadows and leaves unlock my heart Just like a key, like a key
And bring you right back home to me
All of the years I have spent here I have never wandered
I live in the middle
The way you sing unlocks my heart Just like a key, like a key
And brings you right back home to me
